Is it a salad or is it a dessert?  It's both!  This tasty recipe from Pamela Culbertson can be served however you choose, but is sure to get you compliments either way.

STRAWBERRY PRETZEL JELLO SALAD

CRUST:

2 ¼ cups  pretzel sticks crushed  (Place in a Ziplock bag and use a rolling pin to crush them...you want little pieces)

4 tbsp.sugar

1 ½ sticks of butter melted  or ¾ cup of butter melted
Combine crushed pretzels with sugar and melted butter.  Pat into a 9X13 baking dish and bake for 10 minutes at 375° F (175°C).  Set aside and let cool.

2nd LAYER:

1 (8 ouce) pkg. of soften cream cheese

1 cup sugar

1 (8 ouce) Cool Whip   (this is a whipping cream)

Mix cream cheese and sugar together with a beater.  Fold in Cool Whip (whipping cream) until creamy.  Spread on cooled pretzel crust. Place in the refrigerator to set.

3rd LAYER:

1 large package of Strawberry Jell-O

2 cups boiling water

1 pkg.  frozen strawberries – best is you use sweetened frozen strawberries so you pour in strawberries and juice.

Dissolve Strawberry Jell-O in the 2 cups of boiling water add strawberries.  Stir until strawberries have softened.  You can thaw the strawberries before adding if you desire.  Place the mixture in the refrigerator so that it can slightly begin to congeal.  Then pour on top of the cream cheese layer of your salad and refrigerate.  If you pour the hot mixture on the cream cheese, it will seep to the bottom and make the pretzels soggy.

Can be served as a salad or a dessert.
